Merle Dixon, played by Michael Rooker, was a fighter. And not unlike the countless brutes, villains, and psychopaths that Rooker has played throughout his prolific career, the character of Merle Dixon was the survivor of a horrible childhood, looking to reclaim some sense of power and purpose.
The Walking Dead, a zombie apocalypse thriller and the most watched drama in basic cable history, wrapped up Season Three with the death of Merle, killed by his own brother Daryl (Norman Reedus), in an emotionally riveting finale.
Currently, Rooker is taking part in the anti-bully photo campaign “The New F Word — Giving Bullying the Bird,” in an effort to spark conversation about the perils of bullying. He will also be appearing as a featured guest at Toronto’s Fan Expo Canada and Atlanta’s Dragon Con this August.
In an exclusive interview, Rock Cellar Magazine recently chatted with Rooker about his role as Merle Dixon, battling the undead, and fighting back against bullies.
